Our Services

Peggy’s Horse Blankets is your one stop shop for all your blanket cleaning and repair service needs. Blankets, coolers, sheets and hoods are a big investment and we can help you make them last a long time.
Why should you clean your blankets?

The ammonias found in urine and manure act like acid on fabric, greatly reducing the strength and life of your horse blankets. Having your blankets cleaned regularly will help them last longer, saving you the cost of new blankets. Clean blankets also help prevent skin problems for your horse.

Why should you choose us?

We are professionals who use the best techniques and washers to make your blankets and other items look just like new! We use strong commercial machines with the ability to rinse and extract all the dirt, stains, fungus, and manure that regular washing machines are incapable of.

Washing

We use only hospital grade biodegradable environmentally friendly, mild disinfectant soap to safely clean your blankets. We use strong commercial machines with the ability to rinse and extract all the dirt, stains, fungus, mold and manure that regular washing machines are incapable of.

Water Repellant

We hesitate to say waterproofing, here is why:

When you purchase a new blanket and it says that it is a waterproof blanket it means, the underside of the outer material was treated with a coating. This will be your best chance that your horse will stay dry. Some new waterproof blankets will not be completely waterproof!!! If your blanket/turnout starts to soak through contact the manufacturer immediately! If the coating starts to deteriorate, your blanket will not keep your horse dry. If there is a breakdown of the manufacturer’s waterproofing and the water repellant leaving them dirty, letting them sit in the sun, your horse rolling in dirt, and everything else they roll in, could be a major factor.  Waterproofing will help protect the fibers and will not hurt them!

Water repellant/waterproofing? We use Dry Guy waterproofing concentrate in the last cycle of our washing process. It helps water repel and run off the blanket, it will NOT stop water from going through the fibers. It only coats the fibers. The main factor is how tight the weave of the fabric is and how long of an exposure to rain. It is only meant to help the original waterproofing from the manufacturer. It will not take the place of the failing coating on the inside of the blanket. How old is your blanket?

If your horse is standing in the rain for hours and you find that they are getting wet, then it may be time for a new blanket instead of having it water repelled. Just keep in mind that this repellant, no matter which one, will not keep your horse completely dry forever.

So, with all that said. Waterproofing/water repellant is not really waterproofing when it comes to fabric. It will all depend on the type of fabric, the coating underneath, how dense the weave of the fabric is.

Repairs

Our experienced tailors are dedicated to restoring your horse blankets to their best conditions. Some repairs require a unique solution for a custom fit. If any repair costs more than $35, the owner will be contacted before the work is done.

If your blanket/turnout has lived its life, we will let you know that it is beyond repair. We will ask for your permission to strip away the buckles and straps and donate them to local shelter for the puppies.

Blankets that can’t be repaired will be stripped of buckles and sent to the humane society for the puppies (with owners permission).
We also take in useable blankets and donate to horse rescues.
